In Federalist Papers #45, James Madison said, “The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite.” Yet today, we see the federal government exercising numerous and indefinite powers against the consent of the American people. What can be done about it?
When many people talk about rights, I’m reminded of a quote by Inigo Montoya in the movie The Princess Bride. “You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.” I wrote a class on defining a right and how to use it. In this episode, I’m reviewing that class and applying it to some recent news items. Not only should we remember what happened in 2020, but if we don’t deal with the problems while they are small, they will inevitability grow. Whether these irregularities were sufficient to change the outcome of the election is not the point. How much corruption will the American people tolerate?
