California is widely understood to be a solidly Democrat state. All statewide elected officials are Democrats, including both United States senators and the governor. No Republican has been elected statewide since 2006. The Public Policy Institute of California reports that most Californians from coast to interior feel their taxes are too high, and Californians almost everywhere believe immigrants are a benefit to the state. Concern about the cost of housing shows sharp divides between the coast and the interior, though Californians are concerned in most parts of the state. The cost of living, homelessness, illegal immigration, tax reform and economic growth weigh heavily on most Californians. The video of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black man jogging in Glynn County in southeast Georgia, is a stark reminder in that racial hatred still exist in 2020. In the video, Ahmaud crosses in front of a truck with two white men holding guns and a struggle ensues. Three gunshots are fired, Arbery begins to run away and falls to the ground, he is dead. In a separate incident, TMZ released a video from a 2017 encounter with Ahmaud Arbery and the police in Glynn County. The video of Ahmaud getting frisked and patted down by cops in 2017 shines a light on the Glynn County PD’s attitude toward black people … keeping in mind Gregory McMichael, one of the shooters, was once a member of that force. The New York Times reported: The Trump administration is close to recommending that all Americans wear cloth masks if they go out in public, a change in position that reflects new concerns that the coronavirus is being spread by infected people who have no symptoms and new data suggesting the United States is not yet slowing the rate of infections.
