As Biden spoke to his small inaugural crowd of the need for “unity” in American politics, Trump’s political appointees were being shown the door by Biden’s operatives. This contrasts markedly with the Trump administration’s arrival in January 2017, which was followed by months and even years of staffing delays and debacles that left large numbers of Obama holdovers and vacancies in place as the Trump agenda stalled. And when positions were actually filled, they often were by Republican establishment types who did not subscribe to Trump’s policy agenda.
