I’m sure we’ve all played doctor in one form or another as children. My daughter used to love putting on her doctor’s coat and treating whatever pretend illnesses she thought we had. We all know the difference between practicing medicine and playing doctor, or do we?
How many of you feel like a part of an assembly line when you go to see your doctor? You sign in at reception, then wait. The nurse takes you to a room and gets your vital signs, then you wait. Finally, the doctor comes in, looks at your chart, maybe checks a couple of things, then tells you what drugs you need to take and points you to check-out. Then, depending on your insurance, you get to pay for this “treatment.”
Did the doctor actually practice medicine or merely follow the guidelines from some government agency or large medical institution? If all the doctor does is follow the guidelines from the bureaucrats, they aren’t practicing medicine, they’re playing doctor.
