The Nation’s Report Card, NAEP, continues to show declines in Math, Reading, and U.S. History.
The latest math scores from 2022 show the largest declines in the fourth and eighth grades since we began tracking these scores in 1990. Math scores for both grade benchmarks have been in a free fall since 2013.
The decline is not isolated to one region of the country. As a matter of fact, according to NAEP, “Fourth-grade mathematics scores declined across all regions of the country and in 43 states/jurisdictions.”
Not only do we see scores decline, but “a larger proportion of fourth-grade students performed below NAEP Basic in mathematics in 43 states/jurisdictions.”
We used to talk about the number of students who were not performing at proficient levels. We are not talking about the number of students who are performing below basic levels.
The dismal scores are not just happening in Math either, but are also taking place in reading.
According to NAEP, “Scores decline in NAEP reading at grades 4 and 8 compared to 2019.”
NAEP began tracking reading scores for both grades in 1992. Then, the fourth-grade average was 217. Thirty years later, in 2022, it had not moved—it was 217. The same holds true for the eighth-grade average. Reading Scores have not improved in over thirty years.
The same holds true for U.S. History and other subjects. The bottom line is that American public schools are failing, and they have been failing for decades.

All outside people and influences need removed from our schools. National groups are pure evil. Gay and trans teachers need to go. Only the very basics should be taught including how to be a patriotic citizen. No more progressive anything. We need to get back to the education system from the first 50 years of the last century. We need to save the Republic!
