Imagine walking the Mediterranean seafront early in the morning in Barcelona, Spain (above). Or visit the Alcázar (castle) of Segovia, the fairy tale castle of Queen Isabella I and Ferdinand (first picture below), which was the inspiration for Cinderella’s castle. Or touring the Islamic palaces of Grenada, the city in which Isabella and Ferdinand ended 781 years of Muslim rule when, on January 2, 1492, Muhammad XII surrendered the city and the Alhambra palace to the Castilian forces.
How about seeing where Isabella and Ferdinand personally received Christopher Columbus at the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos in Córdoba (second picture below), where they discussed and supported his voyage that led to the European settlement of America?
And that is just Spain. There are countless marvels in dozens of countries across Europe waiting for you to explore.
But most people feel that all this is well beyond their means. They think that European travel, amazing though it is, simply cannot fit into the tight budget of most American and Canadian households. But this is not true. With the help of our guide, Robert (Bob) Lyman, a former Canadian diplomat who has lived abroad and traveled extensively in the UK and Europe, you CAN afford the trip. You just have to know how to plan it.
Listen in to today’s episode to learn how to see Spain’s wonders, and indeed those of Europe’s other 44 countries, on a budget that will not break the bank!
