Once again, the people of the United States celebrate Memorial Day. Will you take time this day to remember those who have given the last full measure of devotion to defend the Constitution and your rights? Or, as it appears so many have, see this day merely as an opportunity for cookouts, get-togethers, and, for some, auto racing?
The question I want us to ask today is: Would those we’re supposed to be celebrating today be proud of what the nation they died for has become?
Do you take time on Memorial Day to remember those who have given the last full measure of devotion to our nation? Not the government, but you, me, and our fellow Americans. They died to fulfill their oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Isn’t that worth at least a little of your time this and every Memorial Day?
John Adams said:
“You will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve YOUR freedom. I hope you will make a good use of it.”
Have we made good use of our freedom? I wonder, if we could talk to those honored dead, what would they have to say about the state of our union? Would they be proud of what we’ve done? Or would they follow the lead of Mr. Adams, when he continued in his quote…
“I hope you will make a good Use of it. If you do not, I shall repent in Heaven, that I ever took half the Pains to preserve it.”
Are our founding fathers and honor dead proud of what we have done with our freedom, or do they repent in heaven that they paid so much, only to have it squandered?
