In this Body Talk Series episode, Nichola finally wraps it up with all of the wonderful information on the fingernails and all that they convey about our health and moves upwards in the body into speaking about the tongue. What does the tongue have to do with anything when it comes to your health? The answer is A LOT. Just as the eyes provide a window into the soul, the tongue provides a window into the inside of our bodies. A window into the body may not be as pretty as a window into the soul, but it sure is informative!
For those of you who have never bothered to study, observe, or pay any attention whatsoever to your tongue, you are now cordially invited to do so. The tongue gifts us with so much and plays such an active role in so many of the things we do: the ability to speak, the ability to eat, the ability to enjoy the taste of food, and, most importantly, the ability to kiss your beloved after you say I do!
Next time you are in the bathroom, take a moment to look at your tongue. Do the colors on the tongue ever change? Does the ability to taste ebb and flow or is it consistent for you? Have you ever watched your tongue as you speak? Have you ever paid attention to the feeling of all of the familiar placements of the tongue as you speak or laugh? Are you that friend who is always sticking your tongue out in funny photographs?
There is so much to look at and pay attention to when we are observing our tongue, which tells us quite a bit about our health. So much so that the Chinese and Ayurvedic systems of medicine would never dream of completing a health assessment or exam without a thorough investigation of the tongue. The color, texture, shape, movement, coating, veins, and overall vitality of the tongue hold the key to unlocking so much information about our health. Why and how is that so?
